BREAKING DOWN 'Option Margin'
Earnings Thread - Daily Thread. I received this from scottrade imgur. Just print out the coupon and bring it to the closest theme park. They'll know what you're talking about. Buy today and the trade will settle on Friday. If you sell today the cash isn't really there until Friday so you can't use that money to trade with until it settled.
Get a margin account, it should fix it for the most part. Broker will Jew you out of an extra quarter every now and then. Sign up with options house, minimum 2k for margin, trade are cheap for options and equity trades. If you aren't comfortable using margin yet, just use it so you don't have to wait the 3 days to settle to use the cash.
Like I said before they'll charge you interest on the margin while the cash isn't settled but it's a quarter of that. Mobile platform is lacking, and so is their desktop, but the low margin requirement so I can do what you want to do was a huge turn on for me.
If you have over 10k go with interactive brokers. Fees are slightly higher but they offer more foreign equities and the fees aren't a whole lot higher. But if you have 2k but not 10k to trade, options house is the way to go so you don't have to deal with the BS settling data and can use margin for basically free to trade while your waiting on the 3 days cash settlement. Just over state your experience if you're not a "pro" so they approve you. So far it's worked well for me.
The biggest drawback for OH for me is that you can't execute options without calling them because they changed things up a month or so ago and it cost me about waiting on the fucker on the phone to execute the options. Wait time on calling to execute is about 3 minutes though.
All around for my current level, I'm happy with OH and the requirements for margin are low which is what you're looking for to not wait 3 days and avoid the free rider BS. Check other brokers though you might find a better one for you based on the amount of cash you'll be putting in the account.
Thanks, I have scottrade and I applied for the margin account yesterday. Missed out on sick JNUG gains though because of my current settlement dates. Good deal, now you can do stupid shit like buying naked calls and writing calls to try and minimize your loss when your trade goes to shit ;.
I din't get the options upgrade just margin account, don't know enough to jump into options.
